Busakira is a rural area and home to about 35,000 people. The majority are farmers but struggle to earn income due to poor farming and crop selling practices.
Child malnutrition is common, clean water is in short supply, and many families live far from a health centre. Schools are overcrowded with few trained teachers, and many children miss out on their education to work or get married.
World Vision began working in Busakira in 2022 to strengthen the community through proven programs. These include providing access to clean water, implementing maternal and child health programs, strengthening health and education structures, supporting farmers with skills training, and offering children protection and child rights education.
